Back to school

It was embarrassing yet interesting on my first day at college. I couldn’t imagine I was back to school after graduated more than 20+ years.   Daughter, wife, mother: now I have one more identity - a freshman. 

On the first day, the security guard at school entrance thought I was the mother of a freshman and kept looking around inside my car. He then realized I was the one he was looking for and showed embarrassment with a sorry face to me right away.  “Never mind”, I told him. I was reminded of my "outstanding" age before I even got to my classroom!

In our new class, we were all indigenous students from different countries.  The humor and talking ways of indigenous were funny and easy-going.  Suddenly I felt like I was in the village.  

It is never too late to learn.  I am inspired by many true stories about learning something new every year.  So far I am pleased to join with young generation in the college.  It is interesting , motivating and inspiring.  I am loving it.

In 2017,I had a very tough year.  My right leg was swollen and flushed all of a sudden. I thought it was incurred by sport injury or incorrect exercise.  Checked with rehabilitation and orthopedics and then transferred to cardiology in three months, there was no real answer.  So the doctor tried to ask my past history of illness and find possibilities. I was diagnosed ovarian cancer since 21 years old (22 years ago).  The cancer cells were removed after two operations and four chemotherapies in six months.  The doctor figured out it might have been “Lymphedema “ which was the side effects of cancer treatment.  I realized my lymphedema transferred from lightly left leg to heavily right leg.  And it was much more serious and complicated.  As Of today, I know there is no cure and 100% treatment for this disease.  It can be a lifelong concern once it developed. In that summer, it was very hot and humid.  I had to stay in hospital and was treated antibiotics for one week due to cellulitis

handball tournament in Maia

In 2019 summer, I was lucky to attend my son’s first international handball tournament.  The photo was taken in Portugal.  It’s a very ancient country and the beauty literally took my breath away.   I remembered there were about 8-10 games in one week.  First 5 games were going well and smooth.  Few days later some kids were not feeling good because the western food they didn’t really like and the days were long and nights were short.   In one game, TW team played against Brazil team. You could see the huge difference of height and body built from the two teams in the photo.  Brazil team was simply too much and overwhelming for us.  In the final, they faced each other again.  My son’s team was this close to beat them.    Although the champion belonged to Brzail, but everyone remembered the braveness and fearlessness of our boys facing any team, said the coach.  It was a special experience and unforgettable event for me and my son.
